Open Call for Submissions

Nubian Narrative invites submissions for an open call across genres, welcoming original work that centers Nubia—its people, histories, cultures, languages, and lived realities.

As an independent publishing house dedicated to Nubian voices, we prioritize work by Nubian authors while also opening space for thoughtful, well-researched contributions by non-Nubian writers whose work engages Nubia with care, respect, and accountability.

Who May Submit

• Nubian authors worldwide, in any genre, including but not limited to fiction, poetry, nonfiction, memoir, scholarship, children’s literature, and experimental forms.
• Non-Nubian authors whose work meaningfully engages with Nubia and demonstrates cultural respect, contextual awareness, and ethical authorship.

Scope & Themes

We are interested in work that explores, interrogates, or illuminates:

• Nubian identity, history, and memory
• Culture, traditions, and contemporary life
• Language, oral histories, and preservation
• Migration, displacement, and diaspora
• Reclamation, resistance, and representation

Submissions may be creative, critical, academic, or hybrid in form.

Submission Guidelines

• Length and format vary by genre (please include a brief note describing your work and intended audience)
• Language: English (Nubian language elements are welcome; translations encouraged)
• File format: .docx or .pdf
• Include a short author bio (100–150 words), noting cultural or research connection to Nubia where relevant

Review & Ethics

All submissions are reviewed with care. Nubian Narrative reserves the right to decline work that reinforces harmful narratives, extractive scholarship, or misrepresentation.

Rights

Authors retain ownership of their work. Publication terms will be discussed upon acceptance.
