International Nubia Day Announcement

Today, July 7th is the International Nubia Day widely celebrated by Nubians at home and in the diaspora.

Why July 7th? The date was selected due to the significance of the number 7 in the Nubian heritage. In Nubian heritage, on the 7th day of a newborn's life they are taken to the Nile and dipped in the water to bless their life. Incense are brunt and the new mother must step over it 7 times. Funerals and end of life celebrations are held for 7 consecutive days. 7 dates are placed at the foundation of new Nubian houses pre-construction... and many more appearances of the number 7 in Nubian traditions.

While a day is certainly not enough to celebrate our heritage, it is a day cherished by many Nubians and an opportunity to share our stories with the world.

To mark this special day, we decided to allocate 50% of all proceeds of the Capsule Collection will go to a Nubian non-profit working to promote Nubian heritage, language, and/or fight racism and colorism against Nubians and dark-skinned communities in Egypt!

We are currently taking nominations from our community for the best initiatives to support. To submit a nomination, head to the post below and drop us your recommendation, or e-mail us directly at info@nubiannarrative.com
