How did the brand come about...

It all started when my niece, like many beautiful melanated girls, was being bullied for her dark complexion and her curls. Years of colonial thinking and functional miseducation have successfully created an illusionary standard of beauty where her glowing skin and kinky hair were deemed inferior. She went home crying wondering why she got so 'unlucky' with her looks.

"Unlucky?", I thought. "If only she knew whom she inherited it from!"

'My Crown' is the first piece designed that started what has become Nubian Narrative's debut collection. Its aim is to celebrates the beauty of black hair. Reminding girls everywhere that our hair is but one of our family heirlooms passed on from our smart, beautiful, and incredibly powerful grandmothers. One, in particular, that is universally admired is Nubian Queen Nefertiti. But have you thought about what is underneath her crown? Yes, another more magnificent and natural crown 👸🏾
